University Advancement (UA)secures support for NC State University by raising funds from private sources, engaging current and future alumni, building a culture of philanthropy, and enhancing the university’s reputation through integrated marketing and communications. Led by the Vice Chancellor, UA fulfills its mission through the operations of four main units: University Development, which seeks and obtains philanthropic support; Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving, which builds and fosters relationships and a culture of philanthropy with alumni and other constituencies; University Communications and Marketing, NC State’s dedicated communications agency; and Advancement Services, which provides information management and other key support functions to all University Advancement units.

Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving (AEAG)uses a wide variety of platforms, channels, and methods to engage the university’s alumni and friends in mutually rewarding long-term relationships. The unit also procures and increases annual gifts to the university by leveraging existing relationships and creating new ones. Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving collaborates with partners across campus to plan and implement a coordinated and integrated strategy aimed at increasing support for the university and builds a culture of philanthropy within the university and across its constituencies.

Essential Job Duties

The Affinity Engagement Manager will serve as a member of theAEAGteam and is responsible for engaging NC State University constituents, including alumni and friends. This role reports directly to the Director of Volunteer Engagement, and will be responsible for planning, managing, marketing, implementing, and measuring programming and projects for assigned constituencies.

As the Affinity Engagement Manager, you will recommend areas for establishing new affinity-based networks based on demand, population, and alignment with NC State University. The goal of this position is to actively communicate and conduct annual programming for volunteer-lead groups that will strengthen bonds with each other and NC State. These groups include identity, career and special interest based alumni groups.


Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement constituent programming with communication, engagement, and giving components in collaboration with University Advancement and campus partners.
  • Promote the University’s mission, increase engagement, and build positive relationships among constituents.
  • Engage constituents through electronic, print, social media, customer service, and opportunities for volunteerism, service, personal and professional development, events, and programs.
  • Collaborate with development colleagues to increase philanthropic support; identify and qualify alumni prospects for leadership gifts and refer donors to campus gift officers.
  • Recruit and cultivate volunteers, providing guidance for social, educational, philanthropic, and community service activities.
  • Manage the budget for constituent activities and analyze the return on impact.
  • Benchmark and adjust programs as needed to meet goals, procedures, budgets, and timelines.
  • Capture constituent information to maintain accurate records in theCRMdatabase.
  • Attend and support university-wide events and University Advancement meetings.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required with at least one-year related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of current theory and practice in constituent engagement, as evidenced by previous experience or relevant coursework.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with a proven track record of building and maintaining collaborative relationships.
  • Project and program management experience with demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, maintain accuracy, and manage details effectively.
  • Proficient in critical thinking and problem-solving, with examples of exercising initiative and flexibility when handling competing priorities and interests.
  • Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently, maintaining consistent and transparent communication with colleagues and leadership.
  • Highly motivated and proactive, with a history of taking initiative in previous roles or projects.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Google applications, with experience using customer relations management (CRM) databases.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with higher education constituent engagement
  • Understanding of fundraising
  • Experience working with volunteers

A valid North Carolina Driver’s License is required within 60 days of start date. Must be maintained as a condition of employment.
