Whether you are familiar with the hummus from Aladdin's Eatery or not, you have to try this recipe! Here's the deal. We have been dreaming of being able to replicate Aladdin's hummus. We have tried a couple recipes online and to be honest they weren't even close to the real thing.

So, we bought some hummus from Aladdin's sat down in the kitchen and isolated what flavors we tasted.

Why You'll Love This Recipe

  • The fresh lemon makes this hummus so light and refreshing.
  • It is a healthy appetizer or game day snack.
  • It can be used as a dip for vegetables, pita or chips or even as a salad dressing.

Recipe Ingredients

Chickpeas: Chickpeas are also known as garbanzo beans. They are the base for hummus. You will need one can of chickpeas that have been drained and rinsed.

Tahini: This is the classic hummus flavor. You cannot leave this out. It is usually in the ethnic section of the grocery store and it can be a bit pricey. We found it cheaper at a local store called "Indian Grocery."

Lemon: For the best flavor you will want to use fresh lemon juice. This makes Aladdin's hummus taste so fresh!

Recipe Tips & Tricks

  • The bright taste of fresh lemon cannot be replaced with bottled lemon juice.
  • If you don't have a high-powered blender you may need to boil the beans first. However, we did not need to do this when using our Vitamix Blender.
  • If you are having a hard time getting your hummus to become smooth then you may need to simmer the chickpeas in a little water before adding them to your blender or food processor. Rinse them in cold water until they are completely cool.
  • Not all tahini is created equally. Although your hummus is going to be good regardless of your tahini, if you really want to create something special try Bitat Tahini.

Storage

Storage: Hummus can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Additions and Substitutions

Chickpeas: You can use dried chickpeas, but give yourself enough time to cook them.

This is SO delicious and I’m super excited I found this recipe. I can’t find the Bitat tahini on Amazon anymore. Do you have any recommendations on a good substitute?

    Thank you!

    • Jen Talley says

Hi Angela, I just picked up some Tahini from Trader Joe's today! I haven't given it a try yet. I've had the "Soom" tahini off Amazon and it was really good. I've tried the 365 organic tahini, and it was fine. I would look at your local grocery store because you might find tahini cheaper than on Amazon.

This recipe is excellent. I add a clove of garlic for personal preference. I also add a little more lemon sometimes. I LOVE this hummus, it really is just like Aladdin’s. I do not like store bought hummus.

Thanks Haleigh! Sometimes I add a little extra lemon too! I have been using it as a salad dressing over lettuce, kalamata olives, tomaotes, cucuumbers and feta cheese the last few times I have made it. It is so good!
