The Learning Experience® at North Bergen, NJ is looking hire a candidate who possess a compassionate attitude and a growth mindset to develop young minds and inspire a love of learning
Role Responsibilities
Partner with and learn from the teachers in your classroom to create a welcoming, engaging classroom space for children to learn, play and grow
Use a growth mindset to develop young minds and inspire a love of learning
Implement our proprietary L.E.A.P. Curriculum®, working with Infants, Toddlers, and/or Preschool children in a way that is consistent with the unique needs of each child.
Create a safe, nurturing environment where children can play and learn.
Communicate regularly with parents, sharing their children’s latest adventures and achievements through a variety of avenues, including mobile apps and personal discussions.
Support your center’s success, partnering with center staff and leadership to achieve goals around enrollment and engagement.
Build professional relationships with families and coworkers and create a dynamic environment where play and learning happen seamlessly.
Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age
High School Diploma/ GED required
ECE coursework or CDA preferred
Must meet state specific guidelines for the role
Must be of sufficient physical, mental and emotional health to perform job duties satisfactorily
Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds
Exceptional oral and written communication skills
Effective organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills
6 months - 1 year of childcare experience is a plus
First Aid and CPR certified a plus
Must demonstrate professionalism and teamwork at all times
Compensation: $15.13 - $16.00 per hour

What advice would you give to somebody just starting out in their career as a Teaching Assistant? Stay positive. It is tough, but it is very rewarding. You might think children aren't understanding what you are teaching them, and then they surprise you.
“I would like to become a teaching assistant because of my genuine passion and interest in serving as a positive role model for students. I am aware of the importance of children having positive influences around them from an early age and would love to have an impact myself.
SUGGESTED ANSWER: “I am a professional, studious and supportive employee who always works hard to achieve the daily tasks and duties that are put in front of me. I am very passionate about education and have been working towards becoming a Teaching Assistant for a number of years now.
Limited Career Progression: In some cases, teaching assistant roles may not offer significant career progression opportunities within the same role. Advancement to higher positions, such as a higher-level teaching assistant (HLTA) or a teacher, often requires further qualifications or experience.
This experience honed my ability to manage diverse learning needs and taught me how to engage students effectively. I've developed strong communication skills and learned to adapt my approach to support individual learning styles, which I believe will serve me well as a Teacher Assistant."
It's no wonder that teaching assistants are at risk of burnout. I think most people are aware of being burnt out but some can cut off more easily than others, and this in itself can be stressful. If you are the one doing the extra, you notice the ones who don't.
High Workload: Teaching assistants often have demanding workloads, including assisting with classroom management, preparing resources, and supporting individual student needs. Balancing these responsibilities alongside administrative tasks and additional duties can sometimes result in a heavy workload.
Each day as a teaching assistant provides a different experience. Your work hours remain the same, but the experiences you have inside the classroom with students are diverse every day. Some days may go smoothly and include engaging lessons and successful students.
