When not to visit Tuscany? ›

There are many good reasons for avoiding Tuscany during the summer months, including not experiencing some of the heat common in July and August. The high season for Tuscany starts with good weather between April and May and ends in September, generally speaking. The "low season" are the remaining months.

How many days do you need for a road trip to Tuscany? A 10 day Tuscany road trip allows you time to see the main cities, smaller towns and villages, as well as the beautiful countryside in between. If you're short on time it can be done in 7 days, and for a really relaxed Tuscany itinerary, 2 weeks is excellent.

Tuscany is a very affordable place to visit. Located in Italy, which is a moderately priced country, visitors will appreciate the lower prices of this destination. It is in the top 10% of cities in the country for its affordability. Budget travelers enjoy spending long periods of time exploring Tuscany in depth.

Traveling by bus is a great option if you want to get off the beaten track, with good services connecting most cities, towns, and villages throughout the Tuscan region. Every major city has a handful of bus companies that they use to get around.

7 days - enough time for a solid itinerary

A 7-day trip to Tuscany gives you enough time to check off many of the highlights, while also spending some time enjoying the region's gorgeous countryside. It's not enough days to see the entire region, but it will let you beyond just the surface.

The consensus is that the best time of the year to visit Tuscany is in the spring (April - May), June, and in the fall (September - October). For summer travelers, we also added June as the best summer month to visit Tuscany for its own unique reasons which we discuss below.

If you want to visit Florence, Lucca, Arezzo, Volterra and Siena, choosing to base yourself in Florence can be a good idea. However, if you remove Volterra and Lucca from the equation, Monteriggioni or Siena become good options to explore the Southen Tuscany.

Chianti is a great base to explore Tuscany, but also the famous medieval hill town with towers, San Gimignano, is a very good base to visit Tuscany. Florence and Siena are both incredibly wonderful, though very different from each other, the first being mostly a Renaissance town, while the second entirely medieval.

Dinner: Simple trattoria, again about 20 Euro per person. Pizza and beverage about 10 Euro per person. One gelato is around 3 Euro. So, a bare minimum of 22 Euro per day but it's more likely to come out to around 50 Euro per day if you are sitting down to eat at simple trattorie for both lunch and dinner.

What is the best area of Tuscany to stay? ›

The best bases to move around in Tuscany without a car are definitely the central cities or located along the railway line between Florence-Pisa, Florence-Lucca, Florence-Arezzo or Florence-Siena that will make your travels easier and allow you to reach the most places in Tuscany.

On average, November is the month with the most precipitation but October, December, March and April also generally get a good amount of rain without being super wet. Every year is different so these are just to give you an idea of what to expect.

Usually summers in Tuscany are hot with little or no rain. Spring (April and May) and Autumn (October and November) are milder and rainier, but there are still plenty of dry, sunny days. Winter can still have some sunny days but is usually wetter and colder, especially at night.

When Is High Season? Peak season for tourism in Tuscany is June to September, when cities such as Florence, Pisa, and Lucca will be at their busiest.
